RE: Exhaust manifold question

Upgrade the manifold bolts with ARP bolts. Much better quality than OEM.

RE: Exhaust manifold question

Sounds as if 1 or more spark plug wires may have burned. Check all your wires carefully. It helps to wrap them with high temp sheaths (8) from the end of the wire. Also check each of your exhaust donuts where the exhaust manifold meets the pipes. The donuts can burn up and you'll get excessive noise combined with power loss.

Annual HB trip report

Renton Wa - Huntington Beach, Ca. (and back) 1995 Fleetwood Southwind Strom 28ft 454 TBI w/4L80E trans Total miles - 3,011 (US) Odometer upon leaving was 75,105 and upon return 78,116 Route south to HB - 405 - 167 - 5 - 199 - 101 - 580 - 680 - 101 - 405 Route north from HB - 405 - 605 - 5 - 101 - 680 - 580 - 101 - 199 - 5 - 167 - 405 Total oil consumed - 3/4qt (10w-30 Mobil 1 Extended Perf) w/Mobil 1 Ext. Perf. filter Gas mileage - low of 7.5mpg (generator use) average 8.5mpg (no generator use) high 9.8 Fuel cost was just a hair under $1600 for the trip. Fueled up at Costco stations. We were gone for 3.5 weeks. This was the first trip since I replaced the AC condenser w/integral oil cooler, AC refresh, cleaned exterior radiator tube fins out, new front air bags, (2) outer sway bar bushings/brackets, rebuilt TBI, new Delco IAC valve and (2) transmission lines. RV ran great. Given I thoroughly cleaned the exterior of the radiator tube fins out I saw a drop (prior to work I did) of 10-12F average temps. On the flats in 90+F temps temp was at 205F (195F T stat). So if you have an older 'P series' that has an AC condenser in front of the radiator either: 1. Pull the condenser out and clean the radiator exterior out. (more work involved) 2. Purchase a radiator genie and clean it from behind the cooling shroud. Cleaning it from the front cannot be done with the condenser.oil cooler in the way. I had attempted a clean out from behind last year prior to the work I did using a hose thru the coach into radiator area from behind (no nozzle) and even that did not get it clean. For pics of what it looked like when I pulled the condenser/cooler look here: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/vn24lwmd51fi3tva1j2rr/Radiator-before.jpg?rlkey=cnklp38brwbae4x8xwooa19ky&dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/s0tornirysblg8j8op6i9/Radiator-after.jpg?rlkey=adiuok2l7vtfk5wf7ia0a95e2&dl=0

RE: Onan 5500 Generator in Holiday Rambler 1998 Endeavor

You need to find someone with a G-Man set and have them diagnose it within minutes.

RE: Sway bar issues

Have you measured the distance between the rubber bump stop and the crossmember. min of 1.5 inches? I see blue springs. Are they variable rate replacements? If they are, was the rig weighed prior to ordering? if not variable rate, you need to install the air bags which rig should have had when new. Actually, the measurement is made between the upper control arm and what the metal rubber bump stop sits on (iron to iron) ignoring the rubber bumper. The measurement also must be made perpendicular to the upper control arm. That final measurement is then used to determine the degree setting for alignment. For the the P-30 series front air bags... With respect to ride height there is a lot of confusion it's measurement. The service manual states no mention of actual load only the rating of the axle. This will be in the motorhome (mine is on closet door GVWR 4880lb front axle). When measuring the front you measure the distance between the upper control arm and the base of where the control arm bumper sits (iron to iron) ignore the rubber bumper. It must also be measured with the max psi from manual (mine is 4880lb front axle-50psi max OEM bags). Some have said to measure from the top of the bumper to the upper control arm. This is incorrect. It must also be perpendicular to the upper control arm when measuring. Once measured that measurement is used it to compare in the service alignment graph to decide which degree setting is used when aligning the front end. Be sure the alignment shop uses the 'Motorhome' one and not the P-30 one. There is a difference. Do not go over or below the recommended min/max psi for the front axle rating. Always go with the bag maker air pressure recommendations vs the service manual given the OEM bag pressure specs min/max differed compared to the newer air lift bags. Air Lift 1000 bag pressures for motorhome are 40psi min - 90psi max.

Weird thread…. It is if you don't own a P series chassis.

Do you know what the specs on your chassis calls for? http://www.offroadtoybox.com/RV/P-Chassis-AlignmentProcess.pdf

RE: P-30 series air bag info

Measured mine (iron to iron) and they are 4.25in. This is with full water tank, full fuel (60gal), me, wife and (2) kids 12 and 15. Bags at 50psi

RE: P-30 series air bag info

As for the pressures specific to front GVWR of RV.... 4,300 LB front suspensions = 10 psi to 50 psi 5,000 LB front suspensions = 40 psi to 50 psi 5,300 LB front suspensions = 50 psi to 80 psi 5,500 LB front suspensions = 60 psi to 100 psi Alignment procedure: http://www.offroadtoybox.com/RV/P-Chassis-AlignmentProcess.pdf

RE: P-30 series air bag info

p-30 IN COIL AIR BAGS ARE not MEANT to increase front ride height. They are meant to INCREASE the front axle weight rating. There is a set pressure you install and I believe it is either 80 or 90 lbs of pressure. It has been 30 years since I have had to work on and look at P-30 front chassis air bags. Doug Yes and no. If doing an alignment the height must be checked prior to an alignment anytime. That is in the service manual. Once the height is confirmed the amount is then used to set the degree for alignment adjustment using the chart. After the alignment is set you do not however use the air bag to increase the height of the front. M As for psi amounts it differs between the GVWR of the RV front axle rating. y point was, a LOT of P-30 owners think the air bags are ride comfort like rear air bags and they are NOT. Doug Yes and no. Do the bags provide comfort compared to no bags? Yes. But they weren't intended solely for comfort.

Need line/s made?

Wanted to pass this on in the event someone needs a line made such as trans, brake, hydraulic etc...give 'Morse hydraulics' a call. They are also mobile and can come to you if need be. Great folks. I had (2) lines made for my 4L80E trans here in Kent, Washington. They also have locations on other states. The number in Kent is (253)844-5377

RE: Breakdown Information

1994 Southwind Storm (454 TBI w/4L80E) 75,1XX Not technically a breakdown due to me catching it before we left on the 11th July. Crawled under for a check of the exhaust donuts (looked great) but I found a trans line (output) on the rubber section (tiny pin holes) leaking. Currently have both lines off and will have a place make new ones.
